Mount Hamilton is a small community at the peak of Mount Hamilton, a towering mountain in the Diablo Range of California. The village features the world’s first permanently occupied observatory. The mountain was once referred to as Sierra de Santa Isabel by the Mexican and Spanish government but was later named for a preacher from nearby San Jose who accompanied several geologists to summit it. The different peaks of the mountain are named for famed astronomers like Kepler and Copernicus, cementing its status as a community enthralled with the cosmos.

Grant Ranch County Park is at the foot of Mount Hamilton in between the town and the city of San Jose. The park sits in the foothills of the Diablo Range and contains many different ways to enjoy the outdoors. Mountain biking, hiking, and birdwatching are the most common activities in the park, but you can enjoy observing wildlife or camping out in your Mount Hamilton camper rental too.
RV Parks to Visit
You shouldn’t encounter any difficulty when you rent an RV and need a place to stay near Mount Hamilton. Grant Ranch County Park, mentioned before, is a nice place to camp out and is only minutes from Mount Hamilton, enabling you to remain close to town. Maple Leaf RV Park is within walking distance to many fun, local attractions, with lots of spacious campsites for you to choose from. There is a grocery store on site as well as a hot tub and sauna.
City Sightseeing
Mount Hamilton is uniquely situated atop the eponymous mountain’s peak, so not much of a town exists for you to walk around. A few scientists and their families live in the town full time and almost the entire town works at the observatory in some capacity. The Lick Observatory is the only real feature to speak of in town, but it sure is an awesome place to check out while you're here. This historic observatory has one of the largest refractor telescopes on the planet, with a museum featuring lots of information about space. Knowledgeable astronomers give informative tours of the facility a few days per week.

The van was everything we dreamed it would be. No issues, it has everything you would need. The rooftop is amazing to hangout on and the bed is super comfortable. Kelvin is a great host!!! Great communicator to explain the van and how it all works - which is very easy to understand. We would highly recommend this van for your trip. It was amazing for our trip to Kings Canyon, Sequoia and Yosemite parks!
