Franktown is a city in Douglas County, Colorado and is the designated county seat. It originated in 1859, being named “Frank's Town” after the first settler to the area, James Frank Gardner. The name was officially changed to Franktown in 1961. By the early 1860s, stockades had been built to protect the community from Indian and Confederate soldier raids. The city organized its school district in 1865 and established its graveyard sometime before 1875 when it had its first burial. It also supplied timber to Denver and much of early Colorado, as well as the Kansas Pacific and Denver Rio Grande railroads. One of Franktown's historic structures is the Rock Ridge Ranch Barn, one of the last existing structures made by pegged, post and beam construction (a type of construction where wooden beams are fitted together at the corners like jigsaw puzzles). This type of construction ended with the invention of the wire nail around 1900.

The Great Outdoors

Castlewood Canyon State Park is an environmentally diverse nature preserve, with hiking trails, rock climbing walls, picnicking areas, and more. Trails are easy to moderately difficult, and some may have wooden bridges to cross. It is a perfect setting for nature and wildlife observing and photography. Visitors can observe the Castlewood Dam which burst in 1933, and nesting raptors (depending on the season). The park is open from sunrise to sunset; both inbound and outbound gates are locked promptly at sunset.

We had an awesome time! Michelle responded quickly and we were able to work everything out for a last-minute trip. No complaints-- everything was in working order and the popup was well-equipped. Very happy with our rental and would do it again.

First of all our host, Robert , was amazing . He was pleasant and very informative about the RV operation. The test drive through Palmer Park was both helpful and made me feel comfortable about driving the RV. The RV was very clean - spotless.
I highly recommend this host and RV through Outdoorsy to anyone looking for a great camping experience. Also , would recommend Cheyenne Mountain State Park for a beautiful experience .
