Explore the Outdoors

Colorado is uniquely suited to be an outdoors paradise, with stunning high mountain vistas and lush groves of aspen and pine trees strewn about the sloping foothills of Colorado’s Front Range. Palmer Lake does its best to exemplify this prevalent spirit of Colorado as well as an affinity for the natural beauty the state has in spades. Palmer Lake is as good a place as any to begin your trip and you don’t even have to leave town after you rent an RV to reach it. The lake is centrally located in town and benefits from the Palmer Lake Regional Recreation Area on its shores. The recreation area is found at the bottom of Ben Lomand Mountain along the New Santa Fe Regional Trail. There are plenty of places to birdwatch, go fishing, and you can even play frisbee golf beside the lake at the nine-hole frisbee golf course.

RV Parks to Visit

You need a place to stay when you rent an RV in the tri-lakes area, so try out one of these options when you arrive in Palmer Lake. Colorado Heights Camping Resort is a place to start and is found right off of I-25. The family-friendly park has over 200 sites on 28 acres, and a large swimming pool for guests to cool off in.

City Sightseeing

Tiny Palmer Lake is mostly known for its outdoor recreation, excellent bicycle rides, and the lake for which it is named, but there are also a few fun things to do on a rainy day in town. For starters, the downtown area is small but compact, with a few amazing distilleries and restaurants that help visitors get an idea of the local flavors. The Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center is an interesting place to go and is educational and fun for people of all ages. There are recreations of the dinosaurs on display, working fossil labs that onlookers can observe, reconstructed fossil skeletons from millions of years ago, and play areas for children too.

Trigg was an excellent host. He let me show up early to check out the trailer prior to rental start date. He was available for questions while using his camper, and even returned an article of clothing we had left. Five stars.

We had a lovely experience. Some minor hiccups at the start of the trip were handled by our hosts with care, and the van came with everything we needed as people flying in from out of town to have a fantastic time camping in Rocky Mountain National Park! Our driver reported the van being a lot easier to drive than he expected to, which was great for when we also took some time seeing the sights of Denver as well and it was pulling "Rental car" duty. With four adults in close relationships, it was perfect sleep-wise as well, but know the quarters are quite tight if you aren't as tight knit with who you're sharing the van with!

Everything! The portable stoves, the gas heater for nights, the exhaust fan, the bike rack, the cozy mattress and sleeping areas, sitting up high driving along and feeling like a road warrior….one thing is for sure, we never want to tent camp again!
