Wolf's Den Family Campground

This particular part of Connecticut is very green, with lush forests, brilliant state parks, and lots of ways to enjoy the great outdoors. When you book an RV in Middlesex County, you can make your way to Gillette Castle State Park, just a few miles from Wolf's Den Family Campground. This mesmerizing park was once home to famed stage actor William Gillette, who built the landmark castle. This heavily visited park contains the ruins of the castle, overlooking the Connecticut River, complete with hiking trails, picnic areas, and a visitor center. Selden Neck State Park is also not very far from the RV park, nestled alongside the mighty Connecticut River. Despite its name, the park is actually located on an island in the Connecticut River, with riverfront camping areas in a densely wooded area. You can find tidal marshes, archaeological sites, and hiking trails, but there are no roads or any spaces for campervan rentals. Devil’s Hopyard State Park has some stellar waterfalls and freshwater pools to swim in once you have successfully hiked into its woods. There are old bridges, historic landmarks, strange potholes, and an assortment of spooky stories surrounding the origins of the park’s name. One of the state's most popular parks can be found on the Long Island Sound, south of East Haddam. This fantastic beachfront park has massive pavilions, changing lockers, showers, concessions, and a flourishing habitat featuring all types of plant and animal life. You can find a quiet camping spot in the park for your RV rental before enjoying a refreshing dip in the Long Island Sound, an offshoot of the Atlantic Ocean. Fishing from the rocky outcroppings jutting out from the shore at Rocky Neck State Park is another way to make the most of your southern Connecticut camping excursion too.
