Oldsmar is a small town in Pinellas County, Florida. It was originally developed in 1913 by Ransom Eli Olds, who started the Oldsmobile Corporation; Olds intended the new community to be similar to Washington, DC and planned to finance it through oil exploration. However, the well that he drilled (costing $100,000 at the time) yielded water instead of the oil he sought. Today the well is capped and can be seen on the grounds of the Tampa Bay Downs Racetrack. The community of Oldsmar is environmentally conscious; its efforts include the Harbor Palms Nature Park (a system of protected wetlands) and a reclaimed stormwater distribution system. It sports tree-lined boulevards, rolling green pastures, and many urban parks.

Book an RV in Pinellas County and you will be in the driver's seat, literally, for the duration of this breathtaking adventure. There are other towns and cities nearby that might be of interest to first-time visitors (or even those returning for more exploration). Hudson began as a forestry town but shifted to shrimping and fishing during the 1930s to 1950s. Lutz was one of the locations used in the film Edward Scissorhands and is mentioned in the credits. Seffner's main east-west thoroughfare, now named after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, was previously named Buffalo Avenue (from its prior use as a buffalo trail). Pinellas Park has an informal arts district matching artists with creative businesses to help develop both. Dunedin has been named one of the top walking destinations by an outdoor-themed website; it is bisected by a walking path winding from St. Petersburg to Tarpon Springs and has additional urban trails. Your Oldsmar travel trailer rental is your ticket to this first-class Florida adventure.

Fred Howard Park is an ideal destination for those interested in swimming and sun worshipping but it is also much more. The park, opened in 1966, is a popular area with residents, providing opportunities to enjoy canoeing and kayaking, windsurfing, a ball field, and picnic shelters (the shelters can be reserved online or you can picnic in an open area without a reservation). The park is accessed by a long causeway where you can go fishing. Fred Howard Park is additionally a nature reserve, hosting a variety of species, some of which are endangered.

Honeymoon Island State Park is an island nature preserve balancing ecosystems with public access to swimming, fishing, and hiking, but it is also a select area for shelling along the beach or wildlife viewing. The island is home to eagles and great horned owls, raccoons, armadillos, and many more species. It is also the site of a ferry to Caladesi Island, another nature preserve.
