Sebastian Inlet Campground

Search for an RV in Indian River County, and you'll have access to a wide variety of rental RVs while looking for the unit that meets your needs. Once you've found one, start your vacation by heading to Upper St. Johns River Marsh Wildlife Management Area near Melbourne. This nature preserve is a collection of marshes divided by levees allowing the public to access the area. You can hike and mountain bike in the area or canoe or kayak the rivers and water bodies; park your RV rental nearby, and you can enjoy a hot meal and comfortable chair between your expeditions. The maintenance of this area has created a birder's paradise, with different varieties of egrets and ibis, great blue herons, limpkins, and other species. Hunting is allowed for deer, hogs, and smaller game, so you should exercise caution if you're here during hunting season; talking to the park rangers and asking advice is the best solution. Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area was created in 1974 when Florida purchased the land as part of the Environmentally Endangered Lands Program. The state hoped to reverse the damage that had been caused by logging and the burning of the plains to reduce saplings and promote grass for cattle to graze on. It has also worked to protect and restore the marshes and wet prairies that are native to the area, minimize flooding, protect animal and plant habitats, and provide the public with outdoor recreation areas. Hunting and fishing are allowed, although you may have to compete for the fish with some of the bird species; biking and hiking are also allowed, but the trails can be wet, so you should dress appropriately. Birding and wildlife viewing is assisted by an observation tower on Lake Jackson and a viewing blind located on the Sunset Ranch walking trail. Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park is an expansive grassland and one of the largest remaining tracts of dry prairie in the state. Its ecosystem is the result of repeated cycles of flooding and burning, which created a habitat harboring many rare and endangered bird species, like the crested caracara or burrowing owl. Bring your camera with you when you come, as the native plants and wildlife have a great blue sky backdrop. Stay overnight, and you can glimpse the stars without city light pollution. The inky black night sky allows you to see the Milky Way with your eyes alone (no telescopes required).
