Sebastian Inlet State Park is a 1,000-acre park located on the southern edge of Florida. Situated next to Sebastian Inlet, the park connects to the Atlantic Ocean and is home to Indian River Lagoon which is considered to be one of the most bio-diverse estuaries in the world.

This state park is popular with local surfers and is a nesting spot for sea turtles. It is also near a few different museums which tell of the local history and culture, such as the McLarty Treasure Museum which holds the remains of a 1715 Spanish shipwreck.

Discover Sebastian Inlet State Park

Getting Outdoors

You’ll discover plenty of outdoor activities to do while at Sebastian Inlet State Park. One option is cycling. The park features over 40 miles of paved paths that take you through various parts of it, such as A1A (a state road) and the Indian River Lagoon. There are also a few mountain bike trails for adventurers that will allow you to cycle through local swamps.

The park is also ideal for fishing. It’s home to many different species of fish, including bluefish, flounder, and snapper. There are a few jetties and catwalks to fish off of as well as boat launches. Keep in mind no spearfishing is allowed, and you do need a license to fish in the park.

Sebastian Inlet State Park is also perfect for stargazing. Thanks to its open position, the park offers incredible clear views of the sky where visitors can gaze up at the constellations and try to catch a glimpse of a shooting star. While it’s best to visit during the winter if you want to stargaze, you’ll still be able to get incredible views during the rest of the year. Some local astronomy clubs will occasionally host events on the beach and bring with them telescopes and other stargazing equipment.

For those who want to do something simple, you could have a relaxing picnic on the beach. There are specific picnic areas located on both sides of the inlet and offer views of the water. The areas are covered by palm trees which provide shade from the sweltering sun.

Camping at Sebastian Inlet State Park

Motorhome camping at Sebastian Inlet State Park is allowed. It offers 51 sites that feature amenities such as a fire ring, grill, picnic tables, trash pickup, electric, hot showers, and WiFi. The maximum length allowed of a campervan here is 40 feet. When you do search for an RV rental in Brevard County, you should also note that this campground has a strict check-in and check-out time. While reservations are not needed, it is recommended.

Pets are allowed at the campground but not on the local beaches. Many of the RV sites available come with stunning views of the inlet and are just a short walk away from the beach. If you want to grab a bite to eat, the park has a small eatery where visitors can grab some snacks or light meals.

Exploring the Area

You’ll find a handful of places to visit with your motorhome rental. A quick drive over to Vero Beach is the McKee Botanical Garden. Created in 1929, this 18-acre garden is filled with tropical plants, such as orchids, palm trees, and stone bridges. It has many hidden-away places to wander through, including a newly opened Children’s Garden which features sculptures, a bee garden, and other fun things for kids (and those young at heart) to explore. The garden also hosts art exhibits throughout the year and has a small cafe.

Should you have extra time, take your RV on a two-hour drive to Orlando to visit one of its many theme parks. This includes Walt Disney World and Universal Studios. These renowned parks are known for their unique rides and shows. Admission is required to enter them so plan accordingly.

Another possible place of interest to take your travel trailer to is Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park. Covering 54,000 acres, this state park is considered to be one of the best places in Florida to view the night sky, including the Milky Way, due to there being no light pollution. In addition to this, the state park is known for its vast grasslands and prairies which are home to various types of wildlife, such as owls and sparrows.

About an hour away from the park in Port Canaveral is the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse. Built in 1848, the lighthouse was designed to help prevent ships from crashing into the shoals that lined the coast. Tours are available of this historic structure although reservations need to be made in advance. Keep in mind there is a steep climb to the top, and there are strict clothing rules to help prevent injuries, such as no flip flops.
