Other options include relaxing on a pontoon in the sun or whizzing around the water on a tube pulled by a powerboat. There are a number of bays and coves to explore when out on the water which offers multiple opportunities for wildlife viewing from the water.
Camping at Apple Canyon Lake
Some of the nearest campgrounds can be found at the nearby Apple River Canyon State Park, where there are 49 sites available to visitors, as well as some group sites. Rent a camper near Apple Canyon Lake to have access to tables, grills, drinking water, and restrooms are provided. Sites here are offered on a first come first serve basis, although the youth, group camping facilities will require a reservation.
Exploring the area
Visible in a 10-mile radium, nearby Chestnut Mountain resort is quite the destination no matter the time of year. Primarily a ski resort, there are plenty of places where you can test your skills on the slopes. There are also many other facilities at the resort, including swimming pools, restaurants, a hot tub, and a snowboarding terrain park. The Village Ski Center is a 20,000 square foot space, housing an apparel shop, ticketing outlet, ski school and lots more, and can be a great place to head after a day on the lake in your RV rental.
