Spending time outdoors in northern Illinois is a wonderful summer, fall, and springtime activity. When visiting during the cold months of winter, you’ll definitely want to find some indoor activities to keep you busy. In the warm months, though, hiking is a very popular activity near Crystal Lake. The lake in the Hilly Fen Conservation Area is just south of the lake and provides ample opportunities for hiking on a variety of trail difficulties. Two different beaches that service Crystal Lake, one on the southwestern side and one on the eastern side. These beaches are open to the public and are a fantastic way to spend the day at the lake when you are camping with an RV in the area. Be sure to bring sunscreen and drink plenty of water when spending the whole day at the beach, though, so that you don’t ruin your trip with a sunburn. Anglers spend a lot of time at Crystal Lake, and you are more than welcome to join them while in town. Since the lake is well maintained by the city, there are almost always healthy fish to be caught. Common varieties of fish in the lake include white crappie, yellow perch, largemouth bass, northern pike, channel catfish, bluegill, and more. Make sure you have your fishing licenses up to date before fishing, though, so that you don’t run into any snags in your motorhome camping vacation.
