RecommendationsLet Vandy Land warm up for a few minutes before you hit the road so it can start getting some of the juices flowing. She's a 2000 so give her that love! Rember to take the parking brake off before you put it in drive, as you'd easily be able to drive with it on and then... no-mo-parking-brake! There's a light on the dashboard so you should notice it. It'll take hills just fine, but don't expect to be high-speed/low-drag on steep ones.Vandy Land is 19'7" long, 8'8" tall, and 7'1" wide. That's likely a bit bigger than your standard vehicle! Try to keep it no faster than 75 mph on the highway (if the speed limit allows) but beware of any winds and slow down if you notice drifting in the lane because that's likely because of the winds. Definitely take turns slow as with its height it could certainly tip. At the end of the day, treat it like you're driving a big ol' house! But expect it to get around 12+ miles per gallon on average.
On big down hills, please put the van out of "D" and into either "1" (~15-20 mph) or "2" (30-40 mph). This will allow the engine to keep the speeds down and prevent extreme wear and heating on the brakes!
On the steering wheel you will see "cruise on / off", "set", "accel / resume", "coast" and "cancel". The dashboard will illuminate when you turn cruise control on, however the steering wheel is not lit at night, so get comfortable with the button's locations prior to that! Please note that it's unlikely to keep the set speed on large uphill as the engine works to keep it moving.Take turns with care! Any abrupt movement could cause an issue so if on the highway simply slow your speed and if taking a tight turn, start wide and slow. It's a wide vehicle, so please be careful driving through the woods with branches sticking out.
Other things to noteVandy Land takes regular unleaded. The gas is on the driver's side, a few feet back from the driver's door. When it's full, it'll stay on "F" for a while before it starts going down. At that point you'll notice it going down much quicker. Try to fill up at about a quarter tank so you're not risking it. All in all, expect to get about 350-400 miles on a tank before filling up (35 gallons). The stereo deck (with CD, Bluetooth, radio, aux cable) is a bit newer, but takes some getting used to. I tend to keep the Fader at "R11" (rear focused) if there’s only me + 1 passenger to create a surround sound effect while in the front.
However, please note that if someone is sitting in the back this could be too loud and may need to adjust more towards the front.
To adjust: Push knob -> “audio function” -> scroll to “Fader” and push knob -> scroll to appropriate level for front/rear.
Bluetooth should be available to connect: “KDC-BT378U”. Bluetooth does typically sounds better than having the phone plugged in via a USB cable.
The dashboard heater and A/C work as a normal vehicle. However, if you have a passenger in the rear that needs A/C, you must turn the generator on then the A/C above the sofa on. If they're cold, there are several blankets included as the heat while parked comes from the propane tank which should be off while driving.
