Getting Outdoors

The beaches of Lake Freeman, which are numerous, are very popular in the summertime with locals and tourists alike. There are beaches on both sides of the lake, east, and west, and depending on what you are seeking during your visit you’ll be able to pick and choose your experience. Swimming in the lake is very pleasant in the warmer months, especially since the constantly flowing water of the Tippecanoe River helps keep the average temperature of the lake lower than others in the area.

Camping at Lake Freeman

One of the most convenient places to camp in an RV near Lake Freeman is just south, at Prophetstown State Park. This state park has all the amenities you’d expect from state park RV campgrounds, including hot showers, flushing toilets, a sanitary dumping stations, an information center, and more. There is a ranger station at this park that can help answer any questions you have about the area, as well as an interpretive center for when you have questions about nature and animals.

Exploring the Area

White County has a rich history concerning settlers and Native Americans, and a lot of the history that is specific to the area surrounding Lake Freeman can be found at the Tippecanoe Battlefield Museum. This museum is built atop the side of the Battle of Tippecanoe, and on-site there is a museum and a history center that tells the story of the battle. Many of the exhibits have graphic themes, however, so a visit here may not be recommended for small children.

When we embarked on our first camping adventure, we were not sure what we were doing. The first right decision we made was to rent a camper from Brennan! The camper was beautiful and supplied with most everything we needed. We definitely cooked and lived in the camper -- not just slept in the camper. My husband is a big muscular guy and couldn't fit in the shower, so we used the campground showers -- which worked out well. Even when the heater didn't work in 30 degree temps, Brennan was there to help and always answered our questions along the way. The only advice we gave her was to provide an updated list of what she supplied because we brought more than we needed! She thought of everything and we are grateful and blessed to have been able to share her "home" for a week!

Can’t say enough great things about my experience renting from Rodger. This is one of my favorite rentals I’ve made on the app. Rodger (and his brother Brian who also made himself available in case Rodger was busy) were an absolute pleasure to work with. They took the time to show me around the camper and how to use everything. They were great at communication and the camper was clean and had all the amenities we hoped for and more.

The camper was great; the floor plan was perfect for our needs. The set-up on the site was great! However, our host forgot to give us the access code to unlock the camper which caused us some delay with our 5 young grandchildren in tow. Also, the propane tank ran out in the middle of the first night leaving us without heat in mid 30-degree outside temperatures. Upon inspection, both propane tanks were empty. Other than that, we enjoyed the camper.
