Created in 1948, Kenlake State Park, shortened from the Kentucky Lake State Park, has the longest shoreline of any man-made lake in the eastern part of the county. There are two trails to explore when you go hiking during your state park RV camping trip. Cherokee Trail is less than a mile long and is comprised mostly of wooded terrain, while the Chickasaw Trail is longer at one mile and goes through wooded areas and along the lake. Consider combining both the trails for a longer hike. And while you’re out hiking, keep a watch out for over 150 species of birds in the park, including herons, egrets, gulls, and red-headed woodpeckers.

There are options for renting cabins or rooms at the Kenlake Lodge.

It’s a well-equipped campground with 60 sites, offering amenities like pull-thru sites, full hookups, 30 and 50 amp electric service, water, sewers, dump station, WiFi, cell phone coverage, restrooms, and hot showers, The kids will love splashing around in the pool. This is a pet-friendly campground so bring your furry friends along.

Exploring the Area

Marshall County campers will have plenty to do in the areas surrounding Kenlake State Park. After your camping trip, consider visiting the city of Bowling Green, a little over a hundred miles from the park. This lively city in southern Kentucky is worth visiting, especially if you enjoy anything and everything to do with fancy cars. Home to the famous National Corvette Museum, this is one stop you wouldn’t want to miss. For an extra fee, you get to drive one of the classic Corvettes. The kids will love to spend a day at the Beech Bend Amusement Park and Raceway, a park that is over 120 years old! From thrilling rides to family rides, water rides, kiddie rides, a drag raceway, and a campground, it's perfect if you want to park your rental RV and camp out for a few days.

History buffs have plenty to look forward to in Bowling Green. Check out the Aviation Heritage Park in Basil Griffin Park, honoring local military aviators. There are five aircraft on display. You’ll also enjoy the Historic Railpark and Train Museum with galleries exhibiting information on railroad history in the area. There are hands-on activities for kids to participate in. The Kentucky Museum is another gem that you shouldn’t miss. There are numerous permanent and temporary exhibits outlining the history of the state, dating back to as far as prehistoric Kentuckians.

Don’t miss the Lost River Cave, a natural landmark in the city that covers nearly 70-acres of wetlands, meadows, prairie, and the famous cave. Take the Cave Boat Tour to get an up-close-and-personal view of the cave and its surroundings.

Food takes up pride of place in this city, and you’re never too far from good old southern food when in Bowling Green. Scores of restaurants churn out local delicacies that you should try. Don’t forget to fill up your RV rental at one of the gas stations before heading back to your campsite.
