Discover Mooselookmeguntic Lake RV rentals for memorable road trips

Mooselookmeguntic Lake gets its name from an Abnaki (an Algonquian Native American tribe) word that means “moose feeding lake.” As the name suggests, moose are extremely common in this wild, rugged region of Maine, as are bears, Canadian lynx, and wolves. In this region, these wild animals outnumber humans. Even here, people aren’t far from civilization. Nestled on the shore of nearby Rangeley Lake is the resort town of Rangeley, ME, where some modern amenities can be found, including a medical clinic.

Getting Outdoors

Mooselookmeguntic Lake is a less-crowded lake in the area. The fourth-largest lake in Maine, it clocks in at a little over 25 square miles and is 132 feet at its deepest point. Mooselookmegunit Lake has a healthy population of aquatic life, including salmon, brook and brown trout, smelt, and several other species. Many tributaries that feed into the lake are the nursing and spawning grounds of these fish.

Camping at Mooselookmeguntic Lake

Skip the hotels in favor of fresh air, birdsong, and the sound of waves gently lapping at the shores. There are a few RV campgrounds in the area. When you choose to RV camp on Mooselookmeguntic Lake, Stephen Phillip Memorial Preserve Wilderness Camping offers 67 waterfront sites on four separate spots along the lakeshore. Out of these four campgrounds, one will require a boat, as it is on an island. All of them are primitive, though most have level sites that are suitable for an RV. Canoe rentals are available at the main office and drinking water, too.

Exploring the Area

Get a glimpse into Maine’s past with the help of a rental motorhome. There are a handful of covered bridges still standing today. The Bennett Bridge near Lincoln, ME, was built at the turn of the century and is a classic example of the New England design. The Maine Forestry Museum in Rangeley details the history of the logging industry as well as the Forestry Department’s efforts to restore the wild state. The exhibits also display art made by local lumbermen and Native Americans, photographs, documents, and other artifacts from over the years. (Call ahead for the hours; it can be erratic).

Kayla was great to work with and very responsive. The camper had all the dishes, pots, pans, towels, etc that we needed. It was in great condition.
Any questions I had they responded too immediately. I would gladly rent from them again.
