Getting Outdoors

There are many things to do at Ashland State Park to enjoy the great outdoors. While here, visitors can fish. One of the top spots to go fishing in the park is in the Ashland Reservoir. This body of water contains numerous species, like chain pickerel, bass, bullhead, shiner, and pumpkinseed. There is a boat ramp available. If you do take a boat out on the water, keep in mind that there are a few sand bars you’ll need to watch out for.

Another activity is hiking. One trail hikers can trek down is the Ashland Reservoir Trail, which winds around the edge of the reservoir and gives beautiful views of the surrounding forest. There are also a few side pathways that will take hikers deep into the forest but eventually loop back to the main Ashland Reservoir Trail.

Birdwatching is something else to try at the park. Thanks to it being a prime habitat for birds, you’ll find many flying around, like bobolinks, bluebirds, meadowlarks, and sparrows. For the best views, birdwatchers should venture into park areas that are thick with trees as these tend to be filled with birds.
