Sitting a little over five miles south of Worcester is the town Auburn, Massachusetts. Although it was discovered in the early 1700s, Auburn wasn't founded until the mid to late part of the century. It was initially known as Ward, named after a general who served in the American Revolution. The name changed due to the similarity in spelling to the neighboring town of Ware.
