Sprawling around a branch in the Elkhorn River, Norfolk is a vibrant city in the east of Nebraska. It was founded by scouts from a German Lutheran settlement in 1865 and was originally named North Fork before being established as the county seat in 1867. The arrival of the Fremont, Elkhorn and Missouri Valley Railroad in 1879 led to significant growth in the city, which reached a population of 3,883 by 1900.
