Looking to escape the Big Apple and immerse yourself in fascinating American history and beautiful natural surrounds? Allaire State Park, located 10 miles east of Howell, New Jersey, might just be the perfect spot for your next RV getaway.

Found less than one-and-a-half hours south of Manhattan, Allaire State Park is perhaps best known for being the home of historic Allaire Village, a 19th-century iron making town. But with the park also boasting a beautiful river, excellent hiking and fishing, and spectacular wildflowers, it has something to offer to a wide range of visitors.

Best of all, its 45-site campground is the ideal spot to experience all the attractions and activities the park has to offer. If you'd like to visit, book an RV in Monmouth County, pack your bags, and make plans to stay for a few nights or more.

Discover Allaire State Park

Getting Outdoors

Historic Allaire Village is the main attraction in Allaire State Park, so it's the ideal place to start your RV camping adventure. Known as the Howell Works in the early part of the 19th century, this was once a bustling industrial village where pig and cast iron were produced. Several old buildings remain to this day, including the general store, a blacksmith's shop, and a church, and stepping into this living history museum is like stepping back in time.

For a real taste of what life was like in times gone by, you can even board an antique steam train and take a ride along the Pine Creek Railroad. The railroad was established in 1953 and is operated by the NJ Museum of Transportation, offering a real thrill for train enthusiasts.

If outdoor adventures are more your cup of tea, you might want to lace up your hiking boots and explore the park's extensive network of trails. The 2.2-mile Upper Squankum Trail and 2.5-mile Canal Trail are both easily accessible from the campground and lead you deep into the surrounding forest.

If you're seeking a bigger challenge, two miles of the 7.1-mile Capital to the Coast Trail are found within the park. This trail takes you bath a broad selection of native plants, historic farmland, and pretty ponds before eventually leading to the ocean.

Finally, one of the other most popular ways to spend your time in Allaire State Park is to go fishing. The Manasquan River is stocked with trout each year, so freshwater anglers will find plenty to keep them busy as they try to catch a big one.

Camping at Allaire State Park

If you'd like to camp in an RV at Allaire State Park, you'll find a shaded campsite at the park's scenic 45-site campground. Located in the western area of the park, the campground is well kept and offers easy access to all amenities.

Each site gets a picnic table and fire ring, with flush toilets and hot showers just a short walk away. A dump station is provided for extra convenience but is closed from mid-October to mid-April, while the campground itself is open all year round. Sites 1-8 and 13-22 are pet-friendly, so make sure to reserve one of these spots if you're traveling with your furry friend.

Unfortunately, the campground's proximity to a major road means you'll need to get used to some traffic noise, but it's still a comfortable place to spend the night.

Exploring the Area

Once you've seen everything you want to see in Allaire State Park and you're ready to hit the road again, why not steer your rental RV in the direction of some of the other impressive local attractions?

If you like history, you can continue exploring the 300-mile New Jersey Coastal Heritage Trail Route. Monmouth Battlefield State Park, the site of one of the largest battles of the American Revolution, is also less than half an hour's drive northwest.

Alternatively, you might prefer to head to the east and explore beautiful Jersey Shore towns like Asbury Park, or southeast to visit the Wetlands Institute in Avalon. Of course, if you want to marvel at the Statue of Liberty or have a picnic in Central Park, the bright lights of New York are just over 60 miles to the north.

Whether you want to get back to nature, brush up on your history, relax by the beach, or explore a big city, you'll find a whole lot to see and do in this part of the country. Everything is easily accessible in an RV, so book a camper near Allaire State Park and start planning your travel route and itinerary.
