New Mexico has many lands open to the public, but all of them are a bit of a drive from Clovis. This, however, is no problem if you get an RV rental near Clovis and drive to the nearest public outdoor space. Near Albuquerque , you can visit either Cibola National Forest or Santa Fe National Forest , both of which are relatively close to each other. The Jemez Trail at Santa Fe National Forest is perfect for a light hike or nature walk, and it’s under a mile long. This out-and-back trail has a beautiful water wall and a little over 100 feet of elevation gain. It’s best to visit this trail in the spring or fall. Another path you can hike at Santa Fe National Forest is the McCauley Hot Springs trail, which is just over three miles and goes out and back. At Cibola National Forest, there are also plenty of trails from easy to hard, and it’s fun for the whole family. Closer to Clovis, you could try Oasis State Park, which is just south of town. This place has parking, picnic tables, a man-made lake and tons of small trails for hiking or biking. This park, although not huge, has tons of good reviews from visitors and it’s one of the closest areas to town for some outdoor recreation. Rent an RV in Clovis and visit any one of these places to get a first-hand account of the New Mexico wilderness.
