The major recreation area of Falls Lake is located in Wake Forest. Here, there are five different swim beaches found along Falls Lake. The Falls Lake State Recreation Area is considered a state park and holds plenty of activities for those who wander in. On the lake, boat ramps are accessible, swimming is encouraged, and fishing is permitted. Mountain bikers will be pleased to know there 14.3 miles of trails with a few 6.5-mile loops offering all levels of riding. Where there are trails and woods, there is often hiking. Guests can venture out on 50 miles worth of trails.
Camping at Falls Lake
Staying nearby Falls Lake is quite simple when the Falls Lake State Recreation Area offers ample camping opportunities for those traveling by camper rental. There are more than 300 sites available, though not all accommodate RVs, so you’ll have to confirm prior to booking. The park has a nice variety of amenity options depending on the type of vacation you seek. Many of the sites offer at least electric, with some offering the full hookup setup. With your stay, Falls Lake campers also have exclusive access to one of five swimming beaches found on the property as well as admittance into the rest of the park.

The counties surrounding Falls Lake offer a plethora of fun towns to explore. From raging college communities to quiet villages, the variety is there for the choosing. Wake Forest offers a few parks, zip line tours, breweries, and a famed hot dog stand. While Durham holds the Museum of Life and Science, the Duke Lemur Center, gorgeous gardens, and of course, Duke University. No matter where you go, you’ll find entertainment for however long you’re in town.
