About half an hour's drive northeast of Durham is the town of Oxford, North Carolina. Originally created as a plantation in the mid-1700s, Oxford wasn't deemed a town until several decades later. Colleges and educational institutions were established and some shut down over time, but most of the buildings still stand here today. Four of the area's most popular highways run right around and through the city, making it incredibly easy for locals and tourists to get around.
