Planning a motorhome camping trip? Then consider Beaver Creek State Park in Ohio, one of the state’s most scenic parks nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Not too far from the cities of East Liverpool and Lisbon. These cities would make great day destinations while you are on your rental RV vacation to Beaver Creek State Park. With different habitats like bottomlands, a gorge, forests, and the Little Beaver Creek, there are quite a few interesting outdoor recreational activities to enjoy in the park that covers about 2,700 acres of land.
With a history that goes back some 10,000 years, the area was believed to have been inhabited by the Fluted Point Culture, and in later centuries by the Wyandot and Mingo Indians. Today, campers get to enjoy hiking, boating, hunting, fishing and, camping in this historical area, so booking an RV in Beaver Creek State Park would make a great destination to start your outdoor adventure.
If you’re looking to enjoy some state park RV camping, this is a great location for anything outdoors. If it's recreational activities you are seeking, then you can look forward to a range of hiking trails that go through various parts of the park. For a moderate hike, try the Oak Hill Trail that’s a little over one mile; it ascends a ridge from where you’ll see amazing views of Beaver Creek Valley. The Vondergreen Trail is longer and extends from easy to moderate, covering over three miles each way, and moves alongside the creek. For a shorter hike, try the Logan’s Loop Trail, which is about half a mile and is a great nature walk.
For canoeing, Little Beaver Creek offers some of the most exciting canoeing experiences in all of Ohio. There are quite a few challenging rapids of Class I and Class II, and stunning scenery accompanying you through Little Beaver Creek Gorge. Keep in mind though that only canoes or rubber rafts can be used to navigate the creek, so pack accordingly.
The creek is also known for its smallmouth bass and rock bass, and so include a bit of time for fishing here on while you are enjoying your Beaver Creek State Park camping trip. Just make sure to have the necessary fishing license. Hunting is also permitted inside the state park in designated areas only and with the necessary hunting license.
While summer is the best time to camp out in your rental motorhome at Beaver Creek State Park, the facilities here are limited. A few of the sites offer 30 AMP electricity; a little over 50 of the sites are non-electric sites with tables, fire rings, and a dump station. Kids have plenty of space to run around, and you can bring your pets too, just be aware of the designated pet areas.
If you’re looking for a place to camp in an RV near Beaver Creek State Park, drive to the neighboring city of Salem and visit Stoneridge Terrace Campground. With about 90 sites available for rent, the sites are equipped for full hookups and come with 50 AMPs of electricity. It also offers pull-thru and big rig access, sewer, water, cell phone connectivity, restrooms, showers, and laundry. The large campsite is ideal for kids, and pets are welcome,so don't forget Snoopy.
Very close to Beaver Creek State Park, in the neighboring city of Lisbon is the Lock 30 Woodlands RV Campground Resort that’s open all through the year. With over 60 sites available at the resort, they offer full hookups for your RV, pull-thru options, double slide-outs, and 50 AMP electricity. There’s also availability of a dump station, laundry, restrooms and showers, a camp store, game room, and a swimming pool.
Consider parking your RV rental at Beaver Creek State Park to enjoy easy access to the nearby attractions of the area. Gaston’s Mill is a historic 18th-century mill that was built on Little Beaver Creek and is open to the public. Check out the various displays of antique milling equipment located inside the mill building. Hike up to Williamsport Chapel, located on a high bluff. Non-denominational services are offered from May to September.
Head to the city of East Liverpool, referred to as the "Pottery Capital of the World," and visit the Ohio Historical Society’s Museum of Ceramics that highlights the social history of the area through life-size dioramas that depict the production of pottery in the early 19th century. You can even sign up for a tour of the museum; they’re usually available from March through to November.
Spend a day outdoors where the kids can run around at Thompson Park. This park offers picnic pavilions, a swimming pool, football and baseball fields, a disc golf course, playground area, and lots of walking trails. The Broadway Wharf is located by the Ohio River and provides a boat launch if you fancy a boat ride out on the river.
After you’ve finished camping at Beaver Lake State Park, and you may be craving a restaurant or fast food, East Liverpool has plenty of options to choose from. There are also a number of gas stations and convenience stores around town, to stock up on essentials before you head back home in your RV rental.
