Greenville is a city in Darke County, Ohio, as well as the county seat. It was established in August of 1808 but prior to that, had been known as Fort Green Ville. The fort had been built in 1793 during the Northwest Indian War as a training ground and operational base; at that time, it was the largest wooden fort in North America.
