Discover Greenville RV rentals for memorable road trips

Greenville is a city in Darke County, Ohio, as well as the county seat. It was established in August of 1808 but prior to that, had been known as Fort Green Ville. The fort had been built in 1793 during the Northwest Indian War as a training ground and operational base; at that time, it was the largest wooden fort in North America. A year later, the Legion of the United States and the Kentucky Militia left the fort, heading north to engage in the Battle of Fallen Timbers. In August 1795, the Treaty of Greenville was signed at the fort, ending the Indian Wars. European settlers arrived in 1807, and the city was officially founded in 1808. Today the city is home to various companies, and it is rumored that Old West legend Annie Oakley briefly lived in Greenville.

The Great Outdoors

Englewood MetroPark consists of forested areas and swamp forest and has several waterfalls for guests to admire. Some hiking paths are paved while others, which wind through the swamp forest, are boardwalks. Hikers can view the black ash, pumpkin ash, and swamp white oak trees that dominate the swamp forest; pumpkin ash trees rarely exist in Ohio, and the park has been designated a State Natural Landmark because of them. Boating, paddling, and fishing are allowed, as well as biking, camping, geocaching, and more.

One such place is a working mill that produces its products in a traditional manner, from coffee and flour to pottery and even more. Another landmark is a memorial hall with old wood, stained glass windows, and marble; it is used to host concerts from country music to orchestral, art shows, and other events. There are several nature preserves, a golf course, and driving range, and a couple of museums (one for appliances and one within a former inn that specializes in American history).
