Originally settled in the early 19th century, the town that would one day become known as Massillon was called Kendal. The name was changed in 1826 when the city’s founder, James Duncan, named it after a French Catholic bishop (at the request of his wife). It became a major port town along the canal route, originally known as the Port of Massillon. When you enjoy RV rentals in Stark County, you’ll be close to some amazing rich history as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
When you want to explore the amazing outdoors of Ohio, you can pack up the camper rental in Massillon and head down to the Mohican-Memorial State Forest near Loudonville. If you wish to stay a little bit closer to Massillon, head south to visit the Beach City Wildlife Area near Beach City where you can enjoy some amazing wildlife and beautiful terrain. There is also a camp store on site with a selection of supplies. The resort has a swimming pool, sports courts, and a game room.
The Massillon Museum offers a great deal of information. You can see art exhibits, history, and even information about football right here in this one special exhibit. If you check out the Moniker exhibit, you can learn about the drawings on the railroad cars; they may look like nothing more than graffiti but are actual signatures of railroad employees from back in its heyday. The Canton Classic Car Museum offers a nostalgic trip back through time where you can see cars that were built from 1904 through 1981. It is considered a gem in Canton and the cars are beautifully restored.
