Encompassing over 46,000 acres, this picturesque reservoir can be reached via the stretch of Interstate Route 44 that lies between Vinita and Miami.

Grand Lake o’ the Cherokees came to be through the construction of the Pensacola Dam in the mid 20th century. Originally, this dam and its accompanying bodies of water were intended for hydroelectric power generation and flood control. However, sitting at the foothills of the magnificent Ozark mountains, it didn’t take long for this picturesque reservoir to become a popular motorhome camping spot.

Campers can choose between Honey Creek State Park, Disney Blue State Park or Cherokee State Park on the eastern shoreline or Twin Bridges State Park, and Bernice Lake State Park on the west.

Cedar Oaks RV Park, located in the northeastern end of the lake, is one of such RV parks. Exploring the Area

Besides beautiful mountains and stunning scenery, there are plenty of other attractions to discover within close proximity to the lake. The Her-ber Village Museum, just a stone’s throw away from Grove, is a must-visit on your adventures around Grand Lake o’ the Cherokees. This immersive, pioneer-era village will have the whole family learning about mid-19th century American history. From traditional schoolhouses to log cabins from the 1800s, an old-age jail to a blacksmith shop, this place has it all. Make sure to get involved in one of the many interactive activities on-site, too, such as mineral panning, milking a cow, or cotton spinning!

The Motorcycle Museum and Café can be located in the middle of Grove itself and provides a great place to learn about classic bikes as well as grab a bite to eat. The museum itself only requires a small fee to enter and has an impressive collection of classic Harley Davidsons to present-day racing bikes. Should you have a chance, ask for a guided tour by the owner himself, who will provide interesting insights into the bike and an overview of motorcycle history.

Grove is also home to the Lendonwood Gardens; an eight-acre botanical garden opened to the public in 1995. Home to over 1,400 different varieties of plants, this is considered to be one of the best places in the region the learn about the local flora. In addition to the native plants, visitors to the gardens can enjoy Japanese maple trees, an impressive collection of bonsai trees and a tranquil koi pond.
