City Attractions

It might sound disappointing at first, but Clackamas has no true attractions to speak of. The town itself is wonderful and charming, with lots of amazing eateries and boutiques lining the streets of the downtown section, but visitors are more likely to see attractions in the surrounding towns and cities when exploring the area with a Clackamas rental RV. Clackamas Town Center is a retail shopping complex in the middle of everything, with everything you could possibly think of wanting. The North Clackamas Aquatic Park is great for children; twirling water slides and splash pools highlight this indoor facility’s fun activities.

In Oregon City just a few miles away, there are a trio of fun attractions that many Oregon visitors feel the need to see. The Oregon City Municipal Elevator is a strange-looking observation deck and elevator that hovers above the town, providing unencumbered views of the land below. The Willamette Falls Riverwalk is the best place to gaze upon the Willamette Falls, which plummet 40 feet into turbulent rapids at the bottom. Lastly, the End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center is a fascinating place to learn about the first pioneers who trekked across the country in search for a better life.

Where to Park It

Oregon is so outdoors oriented that it is nearly impossible to go anywhere without seeing a handful of RV parks and campgrounds. Pheasant Ridge RV Resort has a heated indoor pool and hot tub for year-round use, as well as internet and cable TV. This centrally located park is not far from local golf courses, ski slopes, shopping centers, and restaurants. Riverside RV Park is another spot to consider, with its big rig-friendly camping spaces and a pond for fishing.

Roamer’s Rest RV Park is close to Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge, and is a quick 30-minute drive from Portland and all of the city’s fine attractions. If you want to get closer to nature and farther from the city, Mount Hood National Forest has several peaceful campgrounds in the mountains.

Washington County Fair Complex

campground Hillsboro, OR
The campground at the Washington County Fair Complex in Hillsboro, Oregon, may not be the most beautiful for scenery and the like, but given that it is practically the only RV park within 20 miles of Hillsboro, it is perhaps the best option for camping when visiting the area. As it is located at a county fairground, the RV sites are sometimes allocated to fairground activities, so it is always a good idea to call ahead and find out if there are sites available. For the rest of the year when there are no fairground activities on the go, the park does well for short stop overs, basically offering a flat spot at the fairgrounds on which to park your RV. Services are somewhat lacking, but you will still get electric and water at your site, and maybe even some shade if you grab one of the sites under the trees. The campground is very close to the airport, but the noise from there is generally not a problem.
