1965 Military M101A1
This is an M101A1 Military Trailer converted into an offroad trailer. The cargo area has been enclosed and offers plenty of storage space to pack bikes, inflatable paddle boards, crash pad, camping gear, etc.The original military tires have been swapped out for Corker Tire's STA 8-Ply Super Lug tires to allow for a smoother ride on pavement. These are offroad tires though and will roll over sand, dirt and rock easily.It's topped with an iKamper 2.0 rooftop tent. Sleeping area is the size of a king-sized bed and fits two adults and two children comfortably. Four adults would easily fit. How comfortable that fit is probably differs from person to person and their definition of comfort.The enclosure was built by a professional carpenter and is supported by steel bars. It is well built and very strong. It is secured with four locks; 2 on the trailer door and two on hatch.A bonus of this space is that if you’re towing with a Wrangler you have a place to store your doors and windows if you want to take them off at your destination.Two doors on the side open up to a "kitchen" area that provides space for preparing food, washing dishes and storing plates/utensils/etc. Water is carried in a 5-gallon jug and dispensed using an electronic pump. Dirty water is disposed of in a second 5-gallon jug. A simple, but effective concept.The trailer is towed by pintle hitch. The necessary attachment will be provided. Weight of the trailer with the enclosure and tent is about 2,200 lbs. The wiring connects via a 4-pin plug. There are two hand breaks that are set when the trailer is parked and disconnected. Two leveling jacks ensure stability.We built this thing because we regularly camp on Cape Lookout, but we were having problems with the wind turning our traditional tent into a pancake. The hardshell tent stands up to the wind without a problem. We've been out there under strong winds and heavy rain, and it kept us safe and dry.

Travel to the south island and you can drive down the beach to visit the light house. The north island is even more remote. Plan your visit to coincide with a meteor shower and you’ll have a great show since the islands are far away from any city lights. We can’t get enough of this place.Greyson Highlands State Park offers great mountain views and excellent bouldering if you’re into rock climbing. The campground here is excellent.Shenandoah National Park, Pilot Mountain State Park, Uwharrie National Forest, Ocracoke Island, Cape Hatteras National Seashore…all great options.
