The state park RV campgrounds have limited campsites, so reserving your campsite ahead of time after arranging the details of your RV rental is recommended. There are approximately 44 campsites in total, split between campsites with 50 amp electricity, campsites with 30 amp electricity, and campsites only offering water. Campsites offering 30 amp electricity far outnumber the other two options, though the campsites only offering water are conveniently located near Lake Theo. All campsites at Caprock Canyons State Park & Trailway have access to fresh water, their own picnic table, a fire ring, a grill, a lantern post, and a small shade shelter. Each campsite allows up to eight campers, and all campsites require you to back your RV in. Centrally located facilities like showers, flushing toilets, trash receptacles, and a small information center are shared between all campers enjoying state park RV camping here.

Although a few, far smaller towns are closer to Caprock Canyons State Park & Trailway than the town of Plainview, this town is one of the largest that is within easy driving distance of the park. Plainview is home to many modern amenities, and guests visiting the town should set aside some time to visit The Museum of Llano Estacado to learn about local history. Also in Plainview is the Contemporary Art Museum of Plainview, which features both local and national artists. A trip into Plainview will also give you access to plenty of tasty, locally owned, and operated restaurants. Tacos are common here, in addition to Tex-Mex, Soulfood, Southern-style, Italian, Chinese, and more. A lot of restaurants can be found near E Givens Park, which is a gorgeous place to take a walk before or after your meal. When you don’t want to drive all the way to Plainview, head to closer towns like Silverton, Quitaque, or Turkey. These towns don’t have as much to offer as Plainview, but they are still home to gas stations, small grocery stores, and even a museum or two. Turkey is home to the Bob Wills Museum, which tells the story of James Robert Wills, a famous Texas musician. All-in-all, exploring these small towns is a great way to get a feel for local life while you camp in an RV near Turkey.
