The laid-back, mid-sized city of Lufkin is located north of Houston and Beaumont, close to the Louisiana state line. Lufkin has a typical history for the area, as it was founded in 1882 as a railway stop on the way to Houston from Shreveport. Formerly known a Denman Spring, the city was renamed Lufkin after a wealthy cotton merchant who helped in the town's development.

The Great Outdoors
With multiple national forests surrounding the city, you won't be short of hiking options when you book an RV in Lufkin. One of the best forests to visit is the Davy Crockett National Forest, named after the pioneer famous for exploring the area. This forest covers a massive 160,000 acres of land, complete with rivers, woodlands, and animal habitat. There are plenty of hiking trails around the forest, including a 20-mile trail that takes hikers by Ratcliff Lake, a lake dedicated to water sports including swimming, boating, and fishing.

One place to consider when you have a campervan rental from Lufkin is Fairway RV Park in nearby Nacogdoches. This small park has roughly 40 gravel sites. All sites have full hookups, and some support big rigs. Pull-through and slide-out campsites are also available if needed. Amenities include bathrooms and showers, and there are even some recreation activities such as a kid's playground and a golf course.

As Lufkin is a mid-sized city and the county seat for Angelina County, you won't find better shops and restaurants in the near vicinity. In the city park, this zoo contains over 800 species of mammals, reptiles, and birds, including rare species such as tigers and rhinos. The owners were great to work with. They had amazing communication and explanations at the beginning of the trip. Well organized well maintained and just an overall great experience. We took the mallard to Heber Springs, Arkansas from Lufkin, Texas, and get pulled great up and down the hills of Arkansas had very little sway and felt safe to tow. Can’t wait to rent it again.
