Known at one point in time as New Sour Lake, the town of Saratoga, Texas was first settled in the mid-19th century. Upon first arrival, the first wave of immigrants noticed the hot springs that smelled of sulfur and decided to capitalize on this new-found discovery. An investor named P.S. Watt chose the name Saratoga in homage to Saratoga Springs in New York, a town known for its medicinal, healing, hot springs. At the turn of the 20th century, oil wells were drilled in Saratoga, railroad tracks were laid, and the lumber industry took hold, making the small Texas town a hub for commerce.

You can book an RV in Saratoga and truly get a feel for the entire region while driving around visiting some of East Texas’ most exemplary parks and cities. Both Houston and New Orleans are easily accessible by taking Interstate 10 to the south, and many of the best national forests and state parks in Texas are only a short drive away.
