R and D Family Campground

Caledon State Park is one of the most beautiful natural areas in Virginia, located on the shore of the Potomac River, less than an hour's drive from the RV campground. This beautiful old-growth forest is home to a large population of bald eagles and other birds, bringing many bird watchers to the park every year. There are also bald eagle exhibits in the park, and several picnicking areas and shelters. There are ten hiking trails in the park, but the most popular is the two-mile Boyd’s Hole Trail, which takes you to the river. Other activities you can enjoy here include boating, fishing, and biking. Mattaponi Wildlife Management Area is one of the closest hunting locations to R and D Family Campground. The terrain is a mixture of hardwood forest, wetlands, and rivers, and has diverse animal and plant habitats. Here you can find deer, squirrels, wood ducks, and turkeys, and black bears are occasionally spotted, too. Anglers can catch bluegill, redbreast catfish, largemouth bass, among other species. Kayaking and canoeing are other popular activities in this park, as well as bird watching. Lake Anna State Park is located about an hour's drive west of the campground, on the shore of Lake Anna. If you like swimming and water sports, this is a great place for you. There is a beautiful beach at the lake, a boat launch, and opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. The park has a campground, bathroom, and picnicking areas. It also has more than 15 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. In the visitor center, you can see exhibits about the gold mining era and the natural history of the park.
