Discover Yelm rentals for memorable road trips

The sleepy little bedroom community of Yelm lies on the outskirts of Washington’s capital between Olympia and Tacoma. Yelm was previously occupied by the Nisqually native people before the settlers came, and the name Yelm is said to mean “heatwave from the sun” in the indigenous language. Considered one of the fastest growing cities in the Evergreen State, Yelm has humble beginnings as a tiny settlement turned agricultural hub. After the arrival of the Northern Pacific Railway in 1873, the town really began to come to life and in 1924, it was finally incorporated.

Yelm is considered a bedroom community of Olympia with most of its residents working outside of their hometown, but the town is incredible in its own right and gives visitors a chance to experience the authentic America we all cherish. When you book an RV in Yelm you’ll have excellent access to neighboring cities like Seattle or Portland, Oregon to the south, as well as many heritage sites and outdoors areas

The Great Outdoors

The Pacific Northwest is easily one of the most gorgeous areas in the world in terms of natural beauty, and all of it is easily reachable in your Yelm RV rental. Before you even leave town, Yelm has multiple parks for you to rest in, relax, and enjoy while you are in town. Yelm City Park, Longmire Community Park, and Cochrane Park are all great places to bath in the sunlight, have a picnic, go for a walk, and observe the fabulous nature around you. Alder Lake Park is south of town on the banks of Alder Lake and is best visited in the summertime, or in the fall when the leaves begin to change. The lake is teeming with fish so don’t forget your fishing rod. Tiger Mountain State Forest is up north by Seattle and features Tiger Mountain, a monster of a mountain, and over 13,000 acres of protected land. To the west you can bring your Yelm rental RV to Capitol State Forest named for its proximity to the state capital of Olympia. The Mima Mounds can be found in Capitol State Forest, which remain one of the more mysterious land features we know of. These odd round humps number in the hundreds and are a strange sight to behold when you visit. Head to the coast and enjoy the beach when you rent an RV in Washington, and see one of many spectacular seaside parks, like Leadbetter Point State Park. Motorcycling, bicycling, horseback riding, hiking, swimming, and even clamming are some of the things you can do here. Olympia National Forest and Olympic National Park are on the peninsula to the northwest of Yelm and feature some of the most gorgeous wilderness areas imaginable. With coastal wetlands, old growth forests, and awe-inspiring snow-capped mountain peaks, Olympic National Park draws in legions of visitors each year to witness the beauty of Washington. Mount Rainier National Park is another park worthy of your attention when exploring the area with a Yelm RV rental by owner. You can never truly escape the watchful gaze of Mount Rainier while visiting Yelm because the powerful lone mountain dominates the horizon and provides a stable presence for all in the area. The high alpine meadows are graced with wildflowers of unimaginable beauty and the glacier-carved gorges and magical waterfalls trickle down the slopes.

City Attractions

Yelm is not the liveliest of towns but it still provides visitors with at least a few areas to see and discover. The Yelm Historical Museum provides people a chance to read up and engage with the fantastic history of the area, which goes back thousands of years. The museum operates informational tours four days out of the week during the summer months, and by appointment only during the winter time. The Pioneer Farm Museum and Ohop Indian Village also seek to educate and inform all who wish to learn about the settlers of the land and the ancient peoples who still live in the region to this day. This living outdoors museum is exceptional at everything it does, with its artifact exhibitions and workshops where guests can craft their own items. The Pioneer Farm Museum also puts on lots of fundraisers and events to benefit the community. For a little change of pace, Nisqually Red Wind Casino is down the road from Yelm and has lots of gaming, live music, dining options, and nightlife.

RV Friendly

While Yelm might not have too many things to do in the town itself, it benefits from being surrounded by breathtaking wilderness and a whole bunch of campgrounds and RV parks. Bring your Yelm motorhome rental to Washington Land Yacht Harbor which specializes in housing the largest vehicles. This park is close to downtown Olympia and walking distance to many attractions the city has to offer. Lost Lake Resort is a nice place for the Yelm luxury motorhome rental, with its state of the art gym facility, heated pool, private dock, and an isolated lake. Due to Yelm being so close to Mount Rainier National Park, there are lots of campgrounds within the wilderness areas within the park, and around the park as well.

Overall, we had a great experience with this camper van! It fit the 5 of us comfortably on the drive out to the Gorge but only 3 of us stayed in the van. The popup tent on the roof was easy to setup although one of the zippers for the side panel didn't work so we weren't able to unzip that side. Also, some of the poles were missing to extend the awning. Luckily it wasn't too hot so it we didn't really need it unzipped or the awning extended. We did run into some crazy wind and rain during our stay. The popup stayed intact and. The sink and TV came in handy when it was raining and we didn't want to go outside. If I had any questions, I'd message Jim and he was super responsive and replied right away. I would definitely rent this van from him again!

Our group had a great experience with Keith. Easy to communicate with, simple pickup/drop-off, thorough introduction to the vehicle, and overall a great base for our trip (especially because of the freak rainstorm that rolled in halfway through!). Highly recommend!
