Discover Lake Namakagon RV rentals for memorable road trips

Lake Namakagon is an Ojibwe Native American word that roughly means “lake abundant with sturgeons.” Indeed, sturgeons-and many other fish-maintain a healthy, robust population even to this day. The lake gained some minor fame because it was the home of a notable Anishinaabe Native American chief, Namakagon. Namakagon would frequently trade slivers of silver for supplies and grew quite wealthy over the years. Although he hinted that his source was near Lake Namakagon, no one has ever found it, and there are people still searching for it today.

Getting Outdoors

Encompassing around 2,800 acres, the lake is nestled in between low mountains and hills. Tall hemlocks and hardwoods line the shores in a dense, dark green. In autumn, the seemingly solid blanket of green transform into a mottled patchwork of yellow, gold, and bronze intermingled with the evergreens. Though a handful of hotels and resorts are spread across the waterfront, they’re set back a distance, blending in with the landscape.

Camping at Lake Namakagon

When you are tired of thin walls and drone of air conditioners, then skip hotels in favor of getting closer to nature. In the comforts of a camper rental, wake up surrounded by the outdoors. The croaks of bullfrogs and drone of cicadas will soothe you to sleep, and bright, cheery birdsongs function as alarm clocks in the mornings. RV camp at Lake Namakagon and get on the water within minutes. Namekagon Campground has only 12 sites for RV camping. Though primitive, each site has a fire ring and access to restrooms and drinking water.

Exploring the Area

The sheer wilderness and abundant wildlife is a major draw for visitors. Don’t overlook the small, charming towns that dot the mountainous region. Hop into a rental motorhome and explore them. Each one has its own distinct flair and flavor that makes them unique. Cable, WI, is home to one of the few natural history museums in upstate Wisconsin. It also hosts an annual Fat Tire Festival, which helps foster the community as well as boosts the local economy. Held in mid-September, the event is a great way to find unknown artists, crafters, and other vendors. Mellen is known for its virtually-untouched architecture that dates back to the late 19th century.

The adventure basecamp worked very well for our family reunion at a family cabin, giving extra sleeping and nap space. The camper was in great condition, great space inside, air conditioner and other amenities in good working order. Beau was great to work with, timely deliver and pickup, fair price for the size and condition of the camper. The only issue was the mothball smell remaining from winter storage which caused a problem for a pregnant family member. Reservations and payments were easy through Outdoorsy.

It was ready when I got there. He gave a thorough walk through and showed how to set up. Very easy. I recommend 10/10
