About five miles south of Hinton and 23 miles from Beckley is where you will find Bluestone State Park. Located in Southern West Virginia, the park boasts of 2,154 acres. Sitting on the shores the namesake lake the park is an all-time favorite destination for Hinton campers. Bluestone State Park has access to some of the most beautiful water bodies in West Virginia, namely Bluestone Lake and Bluestone River. Established in 1950, both the lake and park borrow their name from the Bluestone National Wild and Scenic River that cuts through the park. Its rugged and mountainous terrain is covered with trees.
Bluestone State Park is well known for its extensive shorelines along the 2,040-acre Bluestone Lake making it a mecca for water-oriented folks. Anglers can expect to catch bass, crappie, and bluegill from Bluestone Lake and Bluestone River. Bluestone Lake is open for boating and is equipped with several boat ramps. But this lake isn’t the only thing that draws those with an RV here. Many come here to enjoy swimming and picnicking.
