Tucked right along Route 60 between Phoenix and Wickenburg is Wittmann, Arizona. Many of the residents here consider Wittmann to be outside Phoenix’s metropolitan region, even though it still remains “technically” inside its boundaries. The town was first called Nadaburg, which basically combined two words. The first, “nada,” is Spanish, meaning essentially nothing and the German word “burg,” which means town. The area was not opened to homesteading until the Department of Interior Act of December 29, 1916, that allowed people to move into this region and begin settling their families. When you book an RV in Wittmann, you’ll be far enough away from the major metropolis that is Phoenix to still enjoy the country living atmosphere, but close enough to enjoy some incredible wonders this state offers.

To the east sits Tonto National Forest, a large preservation that is rich in natural wonders and photographic opportunities. Prescott National Forest is directly to the north, and Coconino National Forest is to the northeast of that, near Sedona. This is home to the gorgeous red rocks for which Arizona has become famous. If you’re willing to take a nice leisurely drive north, a bit farther than these two national forests, you can visit Grand Canyon National Park.

Or you can simply stay closer to this area with a luxury RV rental in Wittmann. One place to consider checking out might be Hassayampa River Preserve. You will notice gorgeous cactuses and wildflowers in season, enjoy amazing views, and can hike throughout this region. Lake Pleasant Regional Park is located nearby in Morristown and is an excellent place to get a good hike in. If you’re lucky, you might be able to spot some burros on this trail. You won’t see them all the time, but when you have a motorhome rental in Wittmann, you can visit at your convenience.

White Tank Mountain Regional Park is located in Waddell and is a wonderful and pleasant park to visit that provides one paved trail. It is very clean, and there are benches along the paths so you can rest if necessary. You will see some of the gorgeous cactuses, and when they are in bloom, they are absolutely amazing. With the right motorhome rental in Wittmann, you will have plenty of opportunities to get outside and enjoy this gorgeous landscape.

RV Parks

Because this region of the country is so popular with tourists, when you rent an RV you won’t have any trouble finding parks to set your wheels. One of those is called Horspitality RV Resort. The resort is located in Wickenburg and offers numerous amenities including full hookup service, a rec room, and several on-site activities to enjoy.

An array of campsites are available within Lake Pleasant Regional Park. Developed sites have water and electric hookups, and there are picnic tables and fire rings too. Restrooms and shower facilities are on-site. Here you can enjoy water recreation on Lake Pleasant or head out to explore the thousands of acres of wilderness surrounding the camping areas.

Exploring the City

You shouldn’t have any trouble finding some old Western-style buildings, stores, and even restaurants when you visit with a campervan rental in Wittmann. If you’re looking for something that gives you insight into the rich history of this area, you might want to head up to Wickenburg in that camper rental from Wittmann and check out Desert Caballeros Western Museum. During the hot summer months, enjoy a little bit of air conditioning and see a wide collection of Western art, historical exhibits, and educational programs. They have life scale re-creations of the town from the early 20th century, and you can get a chance to see what ranch life may have been like for the earliest settlers.

Gold mining was an important industry here at the turn of the 20th century. There are plenty of gold mine establishments, tours, and mining opportunities for people of all ages. When you have a travel trailer rental in Wittmann, you can see what it was like for the earliest settlers pursuing their dreams of making it rich in gold.

If you enjoy water-related activities, there are plenty of boat tours, boat rentals, and other operations that can provide you an opportunity to get out on the water, enjoy some water skiing, tubing, or simply floating and enjoying the gorgeous landscapes all around you.
