Getting Outdoors

Lake Columbia is an excellent destination for avid anglers. The lake itself is large, and it is divided into four zones. Three of them allow fishing, so there is plenty of space to go out on a boat and throw a line while admiring the magnificent nature that surrounds you. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission did an excellent job of making this lake attractive to anglers as there are a dozen piers and boat ramps that are open to everyone. Several fish species live in this lake, including largemouth bass, crappie, sunfish, and catfish. Should you plan on driving to the lake in your RV rental, you will pass by several bait shops along the way.

Camping at Lake Columbia

When you are ready to go motorhome camping at Lake Columbia, there is one campground, Lake Columbia RV Park, located right next to the water, and it is suitable for long vehicles. Even though this campground is not large, it will provide you with all the features you might need for a comfortable stay here. Lake Columbia campers will have access to restrooms, hot showers, and picnic areas. There are a total of 20 gravel sites for RVs. Each of them has a barbecue pit and a fire ring.

Exploring the Area

When you happen to be camping at Lake Columbia, don’t forget to make a stop at El Dorado. This small town was established thanks to the oil boom that happened in the 1920s. The community developed quicky around the new oil source. Nowadays, El Dorado is an excellent tourist stop for visitors who want to see impressive turn-of-the-century architecture. Campers who are interested in learning more about the previously mentioned oil boom could go to Oil Heritage Park. It is located downtown and has numerous sculptures as well as artifacts celebrating the history of El Dorado. The park itself is an important meeting place for the locals, and many events are hosted here throughout the year. One of them is Holiday Light Extravaganza that happens annually in November. The entire park is decorated with Christmas lights, making the holidays even more festive and magical.
