Information About Bakersfield, CA
Sunny California is calling you to take a trip. There’s never been a better time to check out RV rentals in Bakersfield. Once called the “Country Music Capital of the West Coast”, Bakersfield was home to legends Merle Haggard and Buck Owens. Though the capital of country music has long since moved, the city still has a lively country music scene. Live music and line dances can be found just about every night. Popular venues include Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace and the historic Bakersfield Music Hall of Fame. Downtown has a growing art district and there are plenty of fine establishments that serve a wide variety of fresh cuisine.
Bakersfield is in the San Joaquin Valley, the fertile countryside of the state that has been dubbed the “food basket of the world”. Two of the largest carrot producers call the city home, Grimmway Farms and Bolthouse Farms. Together they produce around 90% of all Californian grown carrots. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy Bakersfield too! The Kern River and Sierra Mountains contain adventure and thrills all year long. Plus, some of the prettiest drives in the state go through the area; both the Central and So Cal coasts are just a day trip away in the Bakersfield rental RV.
The Great Outdoors
Bakersfield is central to some of California’s prettiest state parks. About an hour away is Castaic Lake State Park, a pristine water reservoir, just north of Santa Clarita. The park covers 11,200 total acres and the lake is home to record-breaking fish. Open all year long, except on Christmas day, the park offers guests opportunities for hiking, horseback riding, sailing, jet-skiing, and more. Plus, it’s a great place to camp with the Bakersfield rental camper, having large spots and ample facilities. A little closer to Bakersfield, in the Grapevine Canyon, lies Fort Tejon. It was used by the United States Army in the mid-1800s to defend against raids on settlers by Mojave, Paiutes, and Chemehuevi natives. The original fort is open, as well as restored adobes. Guests can camp, roam the grounds or enjoy several museum exhibits, including interactive galleries and live reenactments.
Red Rock Canyon State Park is to the east of Bakersfield, about 25 miles north of Mojave. On the southernmost tip of the Sierra Nevadas, where they converge with the El Paso Mountains, the park boasts rugged desert cliffs and stunning rock formations. Vivid colors and breathtaking scenery surround the area year round, and in winter time, the desert comes alive with the blooming of gorgeous flowers.
To the north, in Three Rivers, lies Sequoia National Park. Truly a natural gem, the park is known as the “Land of the Giants” because it is the home of the largest tree species in the world, the enormous redwood sequoia. The vast area is covered in towering trees, deep canyons and rugged mountain wilderness. Take a hike in the Giant Forest, between the Marble and Middle Forks of the Kaweah River. It’s the largest unlogged sequoia grove in the world and home of the largest living sequoia, the General Sherman Tree. Climb Moro Rock or one of the several other dolomite domes equipped for use. Take a guided tour of Crystal Cave. It’s always a chilly 48 °F in the cave, so a jacket is recommended. The park is RV-friendly and has more than 20 campgrounds within the park!
You’ll be happy to know that the conservative country city of Bakersfield has some of the friendliest RV parks in the state. Orange Grove RV Park is one of the most popular places to stay in a Bakersfield rental motorhome. Sites are located amongst rows of shady orange trees in a mature orchard and can accommodate large and extra large travel trailers. The resort is pet-friendly, plus guests have access to free WiFi and the pool.
Bakersfield River Run RV Park is located near the center of town, right off of Highway 99 and Rosedale. The Kern River runs just behind the park, and all sites have full hookups. The park’s central location puts guests close to the Rabobank Arena, Kern County Raceway Park, Fox Theater and more!
Smoke Tree RV Park is located on the south side of town. It’s been a family favorite for more than 25 years. A Superior Grocery Store and Foodsco are just a couple of blocks from the park, plus there are several large fueling stations in the nearby area. Suncrest Village RV Park is another great choice to stay in your Bakersfield rental RV. This quiet and scenic spot in the city is just a mile from some great restaurants, popular attractions, and major shopping centers. Bear Mountain RV Park has the best rates in town. You don’t have to have a reservation to stop by and snag a full hookup RV site.
