Naval Air Station Point Mugu is a former military base that operated from 1942 to the year 2000. From that point on, it formed an alliance with the Port Hueneme Naval Construction Battalion Center which was named Naval Base Ventura County or NBVC. In 1950, NAS Point Mugu was the setting for the film The Flying Missile. It was also the airfield used by former President Ronald Reagan during his presidency and around the time of his death. The area around NAS Point Mugu is the setting for two game reserves and one state park.
Search for an RV in Ventura County and you have at your fingertips an extensive list of recreational vehicles perfectly suited for the coastal and desert environment in this area. Some other towns and communities could prove interesting to visitors too. Port Hueneme is an important transportation hub for Southern California but it is also a place where you'd have a better than average chance to observe coyotes. Ventura has a dedicated bike path leading all the way to Ojai, California. Camarillo advertises its cool evening ocean breezes and claims to have attracted visitors from as far away as China. Moorpark's City Library is a popular destination and social hub for the city's residents. Thousand Oaks was named “One of the Best Places to Live” by Money Magazine in 2006. Your NAS Point Mugu travel trailer rental is how you will see these places and perhaps more, in the lap of luxury.
Point Mugu State Park is an undeveloped recreation area in the Santa Monica Mountains, with beachfront, bluffs and river canyons, and numerous hiking trails. It has wide grassy valleys with sycamore, oak, and walnut trees scattered randomly. There are rugged hills and uplands to explore and the shoreline has sandy beaches with rocky bluffs. Visitors can enjoy a swim or go body surfing at the finish of a rewarding hike. Bring your camera to capture images of the landscape and wildlife and be sure to include your NAS Point Mugu camper rental in the foreground.
Ventura County Game Reserve is a wildlife habitat and public recreational usage area that combines preservation with public activities. Hunting is allowed within the reserve during certain seasons but the reserve is also a kind of vacation resort for the bird species passing through. It also serves as a center for university studies and educational activities about the preserve itself, the species that can be found there, and more. Hiking, wildlife observation, and photography are also acceptable activities within the park.
Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa is an interesting, diverse, and scenic park with trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. One of the trails descends from Satwiwa to the ocean and was an important trade route for the Native North Americans who lived here before the arrival of the Europeans. Another trail lined with coastal sage scrub is designated strictly for hiking; here you will see deer and coyotes off the trail, and hawks and falcons overhead.
There are numerous RV parks in the area and your NAS Point Mugu RV rental is the perfect addition to these places to create a wonderful and relaxing vacation.
Evergreen RV & Trailer Park is a modern RV destination with wide paved streets, a recreational building with a reading room, and a lounge with a fireplace. It has restrooms and showers, laundry facilities, a barbecue-picnic table area, and more. Individual sites have a combination of grass and gravel pads, full hookups in some, and Wi-Fi. It is within walking distance of malls and other necessities, and a short distance from many other activities. Some guests are long-term tenants.
Mountain View RV Park is close to the Santa Clara River and has unobstructed views of the surrounding mountains. Some of the individual sites have full hookups, some have pull-through access. The park has showers and guests can rent by the day, week, or month. Some tenants are long term.
There is a lot to do in the surrounding area. There are museums dedicated to aviation, the U.S. Navy, maritime studies, and more. One nearby lighthouse is a landmark symbol of the area's history. There are a number of vineyards and most offer a chance to sample some of their products; winemaking is an important part of Californian life and should not be missed, if possible. Numerous beaches and islands are within a stone's throw and an ocean cruise tour is a good way to glimpse as many of these as possible. If the mood strikes you, take your NAS Point Mugu motorhome rental for a spin down the highway, it's what RV's were meant to do.
When you have run out of steam, it is time to relax and allow yourself to be pampered, food wise. The area around NAS Point Mugu has many dining opportunities. Seafood is the big seller around these parts, for obvious reasons, but there are some surf 'n' turf establishments. There are Indian and Italian restaurants, bistros and sports grills, and so much more. One Irish restaurant has a limited menu of authentic Irish foods in big portions. Those who make it here may like to try the beef stew or the bangers and mash.
Those who need quiet and solitude should not regret needing their privacy, which is what your NAS Point Mugu luxury RV rental is for. Bring back some groceries if you need to and prepare a simple yet delicious meal on your own, to be eaten under the stars. There are always outdoor restaurant decks but nothing says camping like relaxing in your own lawn chairs without a care in the world.
