Phelan is a city in San Bernardino County, California that was named after U.S. Senator James D. Phelan. It sits on the western edge of the Mojave Desert, at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountain range. It, along with Hesperia, Victorville, Apple Valley, and other towns, form the collective High Desert area. Its climate is hot and arid in the summer, cold and cloudy in the winter, making it an ideal destination for summer hiking and winter skiing. This is, perhaps, Phelan's most important qualification; the lack of extensive commercialization and its proximity to and embracement of an untainted outdoor region make it the perfect destination for a simple and natural experience. Enjoy it from the comfort of your Phelan camper rental and have the best of both worlds.

Book an RV in San Bernardino County to maximize your experience while you're here. Some other communities might prove interesting and be worth having a look at. Adelanto was founded by the inventor of the Hotpoint Electric Iron, EH Richardson, who sold his patent to purchase the land that would become a part of Adelanto. Victorville is one of only a few areas where the Mojave River flows above ground (it is mostly an underground river). Much of the land that today is Hesperia was bought by a syndicate of businessmen anticipating the arrival of the railroad (it didn't arrive in time and the land was sold again at a loss). Palmdale was so named by a group of German and Swiss travelers who mistook the Joshua trees for palm trees, which they had been told would signify their having reached the West Coast. Lancaster is distinguished by its cultural and historical landmarks which have been preserved by the local citizens. Your Phelan motorhome rental is the best way to visit these places and others.

The Great Outdoors

San Gorgonio Mountain is a popular area for hiking and camping but the hike can be difficult in areas, especially near the summit where conditions can be icy. On the way there, you will witness a tundra landscape of foliage and flowers, some of which can take up to seven years to bloom. Hikers will pass through evergreen tree stands and diverse geology but once at the summit, the view will be your reward. Wear proper foot gear and pack food as well as water if you plan to stay overnight.

Mount San Antonio is a popular hiking destination with a ski lodge at the summit where you can find food and drink along with spectacular views. It is a reasonably difficult hike and those attempting it should be in good shape and prepared with water and proper hiking shoes. People can take a cable car to the top with the option of hiking down the mountain or taking the car both ways.

Angeles National Forest is a scenic wilderness area that allows for hiking, horseback riding, and off-road vehicles. It has numerous campgrounds, some more developed than others, and overnight camping is allowed.

RV Parks

There are a number of RV parks and campgrounds within a reasonable distance of Phelan. Your Phelan RV rental is the perfect accompaniment to provide a relaxing and restful holiday.

Table Mountain Campground is located amongst a forest of oak and pine trees, on a hillside, and with two meadows. Summer temperatures can be moderately warm by day and cool at night due to the elevation. Some of the individual sites are in the meadows, others amongst the trees, so guests can choose how much shade they want or don't want. There are hiking and equestrian trails available and opportunities for bird watching. Some sites are for tent camping.

Desert Willow RV Resort is a gated community RV park that is close to shopping and other amenities such as RV repair shops and restaurants. Individual sites have full hookups and Wi-Fi. Guests have access to restrooms and showers, laundry facilities, and more. Wait for your laundry to finish in the clubhouse or in the indoor spa. There is also a swimming pool and a billiards room to entertain.

Exploring The City

There is a lot to see and do in and around Phelan, starting with the local farmers market and the Table Mountain Observatory. Adrenaline enthusiasts can try the several ski hills in the area or take a shot at the zip line course racing through the lower San Gabriel Mountains. Also of interest is an exotic animal sanctuary and several guided tours both in and out of town. Take your Phelan travel trailer rental for a spin on the highways, which is what RVing is supposed to be.

When it's time for dinner, Phelan has just what you need. Many of the restaurants are locally owned and operated but there are some of the big name chain restaurants too. One Japanese restaurant specializes in sushi but has noodle bowl entries on the menu. One pub restaurant has a full and extensive menu, and all of the items come in big portions. Be sure to try the knuckle sandwich or the jalapeno poppers, or both.

Picky eaters always have the option of crafting a meal of their own in their Phelan luxury RV rental and sitting outdoors while they dine. It is your vacation to do as you please, no excuses necessary.
