The little town of Durand, Michigan was originally founded under the name Vernon Center in the early 1800s but received its current name to honor a prominent member of Congress from nearby Flint when it was incorporated towards the end of the century. It sits between Michigan’s capital of Lansing and one of its larger cities, Flint.

The Great Outdoors
The closest park in the area is the quaint Optimist Park on the southern edge of town. It’s suitable for walking a four-legged friend or having a quick picnic with the family, but isn’t a place to spend the day; for that, you may want to drive over to Flint’s Swartz Creek Valley Park. The park features an 18-hole golf course in addition to beautiful pathways along the water.
RV Parks
The wide-open spaces of Mid Michigan are a camper’s paradise, with tons of options for places to stay when you rent an RV here. Holiday Shores RV Park is located on the outskirts of Durand. Many of their sites are rented on a monthly basis, though they have plenty of nightly spaces too and each has full hookups for your Durand motorhome rental. There’s also a nine-hole golf course on the property so you won’t need to go far to hit the links when staying here. The park also has easy access to Interstate 69 if you need to drive into the cities of Flint or Lansing.
Exploring the City
As this is a rail town, you’d be remiss if you didn’t stop at the Michigan Railroad History Museum when you have a camper rental in Durand. The little museum sits inside the current Amtrak station, which sees trains traveling between Chicago and the Canadian border at Port Huron. There’s some interesting historical information on display along with a model train from the area’s railroad club.

only issue we had was based on the main reason I have anything I rent delivered and set up. I am not mechanically inclined. I contacted Leon and he walked me through everything. we had a great experience and look forward to contacting them next year or if we are back in that general area.
