Farm Country Campground

One of the most beautiful natural areas near the RV campground is the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge spreads across a peninsula surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Alligator River on the other. It's an important habitat for many animal and plant species. Some of the animals you can see here include American alligators, black bears, red wolves, red-cockaded woodpeckers, and white-tailed deer. There are also several species of waterfowl and migratory birds in this area. Enjoy wildlife watching, nature observing, and so much more in this refuge. Hunting is allowed within the park, too; game species include deer, rabbits, ducks, geese, raccoons, and squirrels. Fishing is also allowed; anglers can catch crappie, bluegill, and other freshwater fish. Canoeing, kayaking, and hiking are other popular pastimes in the park. The Emily and Richardson Preyer Buckridge Reserve is another beautiful natural area, about an hour's drive east of the campground. The refuge covers over 29,000 acres of land, which mostly consists of swamp forest, white cedar forest, and pine woodlands. You can explore this beautiful natural area on foot or by boat. Some of the most popular activities here are kayaking, canoeing, bird watching, and hunting. Goose Creek State Park is located on the shore of the Pamlico River, approximately 40 minutes' drive south of Farm Country Campground. If you like observing nature and hiking, this might be one of the best locations you can visit in the area. There is an amazing boardwalk running through the wetlands and forest, allowing access to the scenic wilderness. About eight miles of trails offer a great opportunity for bird watching, walking, photography, and more.
