Discover Hyco Lake RV rentals for memorable road trips

Hyco Lake is located in northern North Carolina, directly below the Virginian border and directly above the towns and cities of Greensboro, Durham, and Chapel Hill. The lake was created in the 1960s with the construction of a dam across three local creeks. Hyco Lake was originally created to supply hydroelectric power to the nearby Carolina Power and Light Company, but now also serves as the place for recreation for the north of North Carolina, and the south of Virginia. Those with an RV rental can access Hyco Lake via Highway 501 or Highway 58. With the numerous campsites scattered around Person County, camping with an RV here even easier.

Getting Outdoors

Unlike many neighboring North Carolina lakes, Hyco Lake is a lake that stays warm all year round. When many of the nearby lakes turn cold for the winter, you will see eager fishermen and women along the shores of Hyco Lake. This warm water fishery creates the perfect habitat for a wide range of fish species, each one offering their own characteristics to anglers. The lake has high numbers of largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and white bass. Alongside these bass fish, the lake is also home to catch, white crappie, and black crappie. Hyco Lake campers have a fantastic all year round fishery here, and the infrastructure to help them have a rewarding fishing trip.

Camping at Hyco Lake

Those RV camping at Hyco Lake will have limited choice when it comes to camping directly alongside Hyco Lake. But fear not, venture a little further out into Person County, and moe RV accommodation presents itself. ‘Shady RV Park’ is a little northwest of Hyco Lake, and offers an ideal place for RV camping. Full hookups are provided here, including 20, 30, 50 amp electric, water, and sewage. Facilities at this site include a dump station, flushing toilets, and shower blocks. Many of the sites at Shady RV Park are pull-thru sites, meaning all sizes of rigs are welcomed here.

Exploring the Area

The nearby city of Durham is only an hour’s drive south of Hyco Lake and offers campers a wide range of day-trip and sight-seeing opportunities. The ‘Museum of Life and Science’ is not to be missed when in the city of Durham. The museum boasts a wide range of exhibits showcasing a verity of subjects. These range from scientific exhibits covering maths, weather, sound, heath, and engineering, right through to displays on nature and farmyard animals. This vast museum will keep visitors engaged right through the entire visit, both entertaining them and educating them.

We and our two dogs had a wonderful first RV experience with the Happy Camper. It was delivered to our State Park campsite by Feliza and her husband, who were a delight to interact with from reservation to pick up. The camper was clean, nicely decorated, well-stocked and the comfy queen bed allowed for a great night's sleep. We would highly recommend the Happy Camper to anyone looking for a sweet rental RV getaway, with minimal effort and maximum enjoyment.
