For a more challenging hike head for the ‘Mingo Trail,' this one and a half mile trail will loop around the local forest and return hikers to the shores of Atwood Lake.

Camping at Atwood Lake

Camping directly on the shores of the lake is possible at the ‘Atwood Lake Park Campground.' This site offers campers 20, 30 amp electric, water, and sewer hookups. Facilities include a dump station, laundrette, and an RV storage unit. Pets are welcomed at Atwood Lake Park Campground but must be kept on a leash at all times.

A second choice for campers is the ‘Cozy Ridge Campground,' a few miles from the shores of Atwood Lake. Here, campers are provided with full hookups, including 20, 30,50 amp electric, sewer, and water. Facilities include a dump station, flushing toilets, and even an on-site swimming pool. There are many pull-thru sites here, meaning all sizes of rigs are welcomed at Cozy Ridge.

Exploring the Area

The local city of New Philadelphia is a place packed with day-trip opportunities for the whole family to enjoy. For those with an interest in all things history, head to the ‘Historic Schoenbrunn Village.' Visitors are welcomed into an 18th-century village restored to exactly how it once was. This construction includes sixteen reconstructed wooden structures, alongside the original church and cemetery. Before you wander around this awe-inspiring village, make sure you step inside the visitor center and museum. This will offer a detailed exhibition on the history of the village and its surroundings, allowing you to appreciate the structures better.

The city of Canton offers a range of interesting sites to visit, and one such place is the MAPS Air Museum, a museum holding more than fifty aircraft. Visitors can view a range of military and civilian aircraft from throughout history. The museum's ‘Gallery of Heroes Room’ holds detailed models and period items from many wars.
