Sites and Scenery

Bethel Park is home to one of the best municipal parks in the country, South Park, an almost 2,000-acre park with wooded trails, duck ponds, back roads for driving and biking, and jogging paths throughout. The historic tracks of the Montour Railroad have been turned into a scenic recreation trail that runs all the way to Washington, D.C. Bethel Park has a wonderful section of this trail, right in the middle of town, including the J.R. Taylor Memorial Bridge. There’s a map of the local and complete trail that you can download online or pick up at various locations in the city. This is a great way to get to know Bethel Park in a historic and unique way.

Bethel Park is a great place to shop, including the major shopping district around the South Hills Village Mall. Another great place to spend some time is in the Route 88 corridor, between the Millennium Shops and South Park Shops. You’ll also find a lot of locally owned businesses to meet all of your needs. These include unique boutiques, antique shops, handcrafted items, and much more.

History buffs will enjoy exploring any of several historic building and locations including the Bethel Cemetery, which is the final resting place for residents going back to a time before the Revolutionary War. Bethel Presbyterian Church, adjacent to the cemetery, houses several artifacts and displays in their history room. The Schoolhouse Arts and History Center is another wonderful spot to learn about the early educational system of the area.
