With more than 1,900 acres to explore, it can be difficult to know where to start your Sinnemahoning State Park camping adventure. But with the park home to both the 145-acre George B. Stevenson Reservoir and a stretch of First Fork Sinnemahoning Creek, you might want to start with some water sports. Located near the park's southern end, the lake is a hugely popular spot with boating enthusiasts in the summer months. A boat launch and mooring area are available, including five mooring spaces that are reserved for campers, and electric motors only are allowed on the lake. As a result, it's a peaceful spot to spend an hour or so just paddling or rowing your way around. If you're a keen angler, you'll no doubt want to bring your fishing rod and try your luck catching a wide variety of warmwater and coldwater species. In the lake, you can catch a variety of trout species, smallmouth and largemouth bass, sunfish, bluegill, perch, and several others. There's also an ADA-accessible fishing pier near the boat launch. If you prefer fly fishing, you'll probably want to head for First Fork Sinnemahoning Creek to see what's biting. When you're keen for a break from water sports, you might want to set out on foot to trek the park's five-mile trail network. The Red Spruce Trail leads you through hardwood forest and past a unique wetland area, offering a challenging one-mile hike. But the most popular route sees hikers tackle the Lowlands Trail, which traverses five miles of terrain along the first fork. There are interesting interpretive panels along the way, but the highlight is an ADA-accessible wildlife viewing platform where you might catch a glimpse of deer, elk, and a wide variety of bird species. Of course, if you don't have any luck spotting many creatures, you might want to head to the park's Wildlife Center to check out some of the interactive exhibits.
