Bowie (pronounced “Boo-ee”) is a town in Montague County, Texas, but should not be confused with Bowie County in northeastern Texas. It was incorporated in 1881 and became a railroad stop the following year. This was coincidental, as the railroad was passing through to Wichita Falls but delays in building the roadbed the tracks would lay on top of forced the railroad company to make Bowie a railhead stop for construction supplies and other materials.

Search for an RV in Montague County, and you can choose from a variety of RV models of all shapes and sizes. There are other towns and cities near Bowie that are worth exploring at least a little bit. Wichita Falls is listed in Ripley's Believe It or Not for having the world's smallest skyscraper (it was built in 1919). Valley View was first settled in 1870 and opened its first school in 1873 in a blacksmith's shop. Roanoke was temporarily home to famed bank robbers Bonnie and Clyde, who stayed there in the 1930s in a hotel. Mineral Wells is known for its paranormal and haunted house tours. Your Bowie travel trailer rental is your invitation to this historical and unusual part of the country.

The Great Outdoors

Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge is a wildlife and nature preserve that also provides public recreational and educational opportunities. The landscape consists of forests, prairies, and wetlands that demonstrate what the region looked like prior to becoming settled. Public education is conducted by the park's interpretive center and through guided hikes led by park staff. The park and interpretive center are open year-round, and visitors can hike and witness a variety of animals such as bison and alligators.

Lake Mineral Wells State Park & Trailway is a scenic outdoor recreational area with opportunities to hike, rock climb, geocache, and much more. Visitors can rent canoes, kayaks, and boats for going out on the lake; fishing gear can be borrowed. The park also has museums, gardens, and a fossil park for guests to enjoy. Keep your Bowie RV rental nearby and enjoy a hot coffee and snacks in between your activities.

Ray Roberts Lake State Park is a multi-use nature preserve that houses more than 300 plant species and the wildlife that survive off of them. There are three unique eco-regions that make up the park: Eastern Cross Timbers; Blackland Prairie; and Grand Prairie. They exist on a surface of sandstone, with some shale and clay. The animals live within the oak tree stands and the prairie grassland, which also set the stage for public activities like hiking, biking, and horseback riding. It is also a perfect area for nature viewing and photography.

Nothing says vacation like eating in a comfortable lawn chair under an open sky, especially as the sun begins to set.
