Discover Gunter RV rentals for memorable road trips

John (Jot) Gunter, a rancher who owned several thousand acres in northern Texas, had an idea in the late 19th century: build a town and make money off the land. He parceled around 300 acres and platted it. The first inhabitant, Albert Earthman, built a home in 1903. He later would charter the First National Bank. With the bank along with a post office, which opened shortly after, the town slowly grew.

The Great Outdoors

Get closer to nature, wake up at dawn to the sound of birdsong, and avoid leaky tents. This fantasy can be made real with a Gunter travel trailer rental. There are several parks and lakes in the area all with something for everyone. Work on a tan or leveling up water-skiing skills at Lake Texoma, a massive reservoir on the Texas-Oklahoma state borders. Fish for both freshwater and saltwater fish at one of the few lakes in the country that harbors both aquatic creatures, thanks to a millions-of-years-old geological quirk that leaches salt into the lake water. Not only are boats available for rental, but there are also several RV campgrounds and resorts dotting the perimeter of the lake. A 20-mile long hiking trail etches the contours of the lake, crossing through open meadows and scrubby woods. Hikers, take note: there are a couple of venomous snakes that reside in this region. Dog owners should also keep an eye out.

RV Parks

When you search for an RV in Gunter, TX, be sure to figure out where you’ll park overnight or while you go adventuring. Though the communities in rural Texas tend to be laidback, it’s still difficult to find a place to pull over on a narrow country road. Fortunately, there are hundreds of public and private campgrounds in north Texas.

Exploring the City

Pretty much everything in Texas is oversized. Homes are bigger. The sky is bigger. And so is the driving time to anywhere outside the major cities. A Gunter motorhome rental makes driving to and from the local attractions more comfortable. The Sharkarosa Wildlife Ranch in Pilot Point, TX, was originally a homebrewed petting zoo but has grown to a bonafide nonprofit wildlife ranch licensed by USDA. A shortlist of animals include but are not limited to: camels, Grants Zebras, Tibetan yaks, zedonk and zorse, several species of lemurs, and black bears. Meet some of your favorite critters in an up-close-and-personal encounter. During these encounters, visitors can feed and pet the ambassador animals and also learn about caring for these animals and about the environment they originally came from. The facility is open to the public only on weekends. Heads up: there is a small parking fee.
