The Great Outdoors

Set in the stunning Texas countryside, Dupree Park Nature Center is a beautiful 57-acre nature preserve filled with winding walking trails. Along the numerous trails, you will find 65 signposts which are filled with information about the flora and fauna in the area. Bird lovers will enjoy the many species found in the area. There is also a pavilion which is perfect for parties and family reunions.

RV Parks

You won’t have to travel very far to find a range of RV Parks to park your Mount Vernon camper rental, many of which surround the nearby lakes. Barefoot Bay Marina and RV Park is just one of these, boasting some of the best views of Lake Bob Sandlin. The park covers 20 acres and has 79 spaces for RVs. A large whitetail deer population can often be seen roaming the wooded grounds. Most of the sites are shaded and come with picnic tables, BBQ grills, and have 20 and 50 amp electric service.

Exploring the City

With two art museums in town, art enthusiasts can get a glimpse of local and regional talent. The Old Jail Art Museum is unique in the fact that it is housed in a circa 1912 jail, which not only has a permanent collection on display on the upper floor, but also changing exhibits. The original prison cells house soft sculpture ‘prisoners' that add to the decor. The Cultural Arts Center opens its doors for artist’s conferences, workshops, pottery shows, art shows, and more.
