Raymond Gary State Park in southeast Oklahoma is a great motorhome camping trip destination, and you’ll find plenty to keep yourself busy with at this scenic state park. Not too far from Texas, the state park is located on the shores of Raymond Gary Lake on the outskirts of the small town of Fort Towson. The cities of Durant and Ada are not too far from the park, and you can travel to these surrounding cities by renting an RV. Named after the first governor to be born in Oklahoma since statehood, Raymond Gary State Park is now a much sought-after recreational destination. Camping at Raymond Gary State Park opens up a world of outdoor recreation for outdoor enthusiasts. Although the park is not too big at just over 63 acres, its scenic surroundings are what attract nature lovers here. The prime attraction of the park is the Raymond Gary Lake that’s spread over 263 acres. Getting Outdoors

RV camping at Raymond Gary State Park is a great place for anglers to fish for smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, channel catfish, and bluegill sunfish, redear sunfish. The calm lake waters make fishing an ideal pastime at the state park. Since this is a small lake, catch restrictions are in place, and fishing is limited to two rods or reels per person. Boat fishing is possible, or if you’d like to fish from a fishing pier, you have that option too, and the fishing pier is ADA-accessible too. 

Leisure boating at Raymond Gary State Park is possible, and canoes and kayaks bobbing up and down on the lake are a common sight. Unlighted boat ramps are available to access the lake, and if you haven’t brought your watercraft, canoes, paddleboats, and Jon boats are available for rent at the park.

When you’re looking for a place to camp in an RV near Raymond Gary State Park drive to the neighboring town of Valliant to Pine Creek Cove COE. This COE has 41 campsites, and the campground features big rig access, tent camping, 30 and 50 amp electric service, water, a dump station, central water spigot, and limited cell phone coverage. Campers have access to restrooms, showers, and a picnic shelter. There are vault restrooms too. For recreation, there is fishing and boating close to the campground. Four-legged friends are also welcome at this campground. 

Exploring the Area

Choctaw County campers have plenty to look forward to during their travels around Raymond Gary State Park. The smaller towns and cities in this county and the neighboring Bryan County offer a range of attractions to visitors. 

Visit the Choctaw Welcome Center, where you can get an interesting insight into the Choctaw culture and then start with a trip over to Durant to the Three Rivers Valley Museum. The museum houses a wide collection of artifacts linked to the county and the neighboring Brian County. 

Step into the wild at the Pine Mountain ATV Park in Rattan. With over 1700 acres of wooded trails to explore, rock formations, and creeks to discover, rent an ATV and enjoy this wooded delight. The park has 60 miles of trails with smooth and rough terrain that caters to varying skill levels. 

The Texoma Mud Park is another fun stop with ATV trails and large mud pits that provide a thrill-filled riding experience. 

The city of Smithville is home to the Wild Boar Ridge Hunting Ranch, where gun, bow, and spear hunting is permitted along with hunting with dogs.
