Getting Outdoors

The keen anglers among you will be pleased to learn that Pat Mayse Lake is somewhat of a mecca for fishermen. Its waters are home to many species of fish, and these include largemouth bass, striped bass, white crappie, sunfish, and flathead catfish. Peak fishing for largemouth bass occurs during spring, mid-February through to April. Anglers often concentrate on fishing the expansive sixty-seven-mile shoreline in search of spawning fish. As well as fishing from the shoreline, Pat Mayse Lake campers can also take a boat out on to the water - this is best for catching catfish in the thick lake vegetation

Camping At Pat Mayse Lake

There is a choice between a few campsites when camping at Pat Mayse Lake, depending on camper's preferences. Campers wishing to camp directly on the shores of Pat Mayse Lake should head to Pat Mayse West Campground, on the northern shore. This year-round campground offers 88 sites, 83 of which have electric hookups. Amenities and facilities include flush and pit toilets, showers, drinking water, a dump station, and a boat ramp.

Exploring The Area

The local city of Paris is a great place to explore while camping in Lamar County, and just like its French namesake, Paris, Texas is home to its very own Eiffel Tower. It was built by members of the local welders’ union in 1993 and is less than one-tenth the height of the 1,063-foot original. In true Texan style, a shiny red cowboy hat was added to the top of the spindle in 1998. The Eiffel Tower makes a great destination to add to your itinerary when visiting Paris. A visit after sunset will provide an altogether different experience. The tower has 27 thirty-watt LED lights which are programmed by color according to the season.
