Established as the Town of Orange Court House in the 18th century, Orange lies in Virginia’s Piedmont region between Charlottesville and Washington, D.C. It held strategic importance during the American Civil War, with the Rapidan River to the north of town acting as the northern border of the Confederacy between 1862 and 1864.
